I have lived in the US.
I have worked in the US.
I have many friends in the US.
They agree with this statement.
Resisting them is now about the safety of all people, of our children.
When we are told that kidnapping a president and murdering 100 people doing so is DEMOCRACY.
When we are told stealing another nations resources is the FREE MARKET.
When we are told that genocide is SELF DEFENCE.
When we are told we are taking Greenland whether you LIKE IT OR NOT.
When we are told that a woman shot dead for protesting is a domestic TERRORIST.
All of these lies are told to us by the USA.
It’s not enough to post online.
It’s not enough to boycott Coca Cola.
You need to do these things and MUCH MORE.
We need to take action.
We need to show our government that silence is not acceptable.
That US war planes in Ireland are not acceptable.
That ‘Business as usual’ because we need their multinationals is not acceptable.
We cannot and should not have normal relations with violent imperialists.
We cannot place the dollar ahead of our morals.
We cannot place the economy ahead of human rights.
Donald Trump embodies the violent imperialism of the US.
It’s not masked in charisma.
It hopefully allows others to see their hypocrisy and their disregard for ordinary people across the world that is often masked.
I have sadly seen firsthand how this disregard is moving way outside of politics to influence our young people in sports and culture.
When FIFA create a peace award to appease a man like Trump.
When the British state try convict a member of Kneecap as a terrorist.
They will do everything they can to whitewash.
They will do everything they can to silence.
We cannot let them do it.
The US has kidnapped Maduro not to assist but to plunder.
They do not promote democracy for people. They promote a free market for their corporations and billionaires to strip other nations.
They have always done this. From Libya to Iraq. From Venezuela to Greenland next.
To everybody here well done for attending.
But it is not enough.
And as we confront this reality of being under threat, and the reality of so many in this city living hand to mouth, we need to understand that no one is coming to rescue us.
The only protection we will ever have is the protection we build for one another.
And this protection isn’t the protection of a gun or of NATO.
It is the protection of communities of solidarity and shared responsibility structures that can withstand shocks, that can support those who fall, that can hold steady when institutions fail.
When the crisis comes here, and it will, it will be the strength of our relationships with each other, our cooperative efforts, and our willingness to care for our neighbours in practical, everyday ways that determines whether we can endure.
These are not abstract ideals - they are the foundations of real safety.
If we want to withstand the threats that surround us, the threats led by the US, we must commit to building these foundations together.
Take Action against the nation that is threatening us all.
And remember the words of Nelson Mandela who knew this 35 years ago:
“If there is a country that has committed unspeakable atrocities in the world, it is the United States of America”
